Better With Art

Stressed? Overwhelmed? Make this simple healing art.

Revisiting my simple form of neurographic art this week. Relaxing. Mind-calming. Therapeutic. Healing. If you’re looking for a break, you’ve come to the right place.

You don’t have to consider yourself an artist to benefit mentally and emotionally from art-making.

Welcome to BETTER WITH ART. I’m Melinda and I’m here to encourage you to reclaim your creativity with weekly small art prompts that can be done in an art journal or on paper if you don’t have one. If you’d like to know more about the journals and other materials I use, scroll below the video.

Embrace self-care with neurographic art

This year so far has been rough. But art helps.

Let’s reclaim creativity together and find healing through art.

Materials

If you’d like an art journal that’s ideal for my simple form of art journaling that uses various mediums, the paper is important. It needs to be heavy-weight and smooth. Hot-press if it’s watercolor or some heavier mixed-media paper, because although I love the texture of cold-press it’s really hard on markers and pens. The mixed-media art journal I use in my videos and the art journaling groups at the library where I work is 140lb/300gsm. It stands up to all my dry, wet, and layered applications. Sadly, it’s no longer available and I’m exploring alternatives to find the best value.

Here’s the little one I’m using in this week’s video. I can say the paper is GREAT:

I’ve been experimenting with these Dylusions creative journals to modify for Muse packs to spark your creativity. So far, so good, at least with collage-type pages. The pages are more ivory or like a pale manila folder than white, and like a heavy cardstock.

As it turns out, this week’s pens are also out of stock. Here is another set I use, currently with a 10 percent coupon:

You can check out more of my favorite art supplies available on Amazon by visiting my slowly growing storefront.
I’m going to have to find some time to update for out-of-stock items.
