I come back to something to do with SAYING YES TO LIFE which is LOVE OF LIFE, HOWEVER INADEQUATE, and LOVE OF THE SELF, HOWEVER FOUND. Not in the me-first way that is opposite of life and love, but with a SALMON-LIKE DETERMINATION to swim upstream, however choppy upstream is, BECAUSE THIS IS YOUR STREAM.Jeanette Winterson, Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal? emphasis added
While reading Jeanette Winterson’s Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?, I was interested in her interest in and take on resilience. Though in ways we are very different, the ways in which we, and our experiences, are similar, made the book meaningful to me. Reading a memoir can be impactful and useful. But what resonates with me may be very different from what encourages you.
But each of us must swim.
